These truths lay there plainly but unless you’re deliberately searching for them, they, like dark objects in a pitch-dark room are easy to miss. But these very truths provide the answers to the basic questions in the heart of every man- the “why” of creation.
God is a God of purpose and intent. Reading the Genesis creation story with this in mind is key to finding these gems. Nothing was made that was made without a pre-determined need for it. Finding and knowing these truths adds a whole new spice to life as a human.
The Genesis account doesn’t just describe the “how” of creation, it tells us its “Why”; it tells us the reason for the creation of the earth, the heavens and humans. It tells us that:
- The Earth is the reason for the creation of the heavens. – Genesis 1: 14 to 18
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from From the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years and Let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth”and it was so.
We know that the tides of the oceans and seas are influenced by the heavenly bodies. Heat and cold, drought and storms, are the direct results of planetary influences. Frosts and heat waves are predicted months ahead by the sure knowledge of planetary positions.
Science doesn’t deny that there is not a single planet, sun, moon, or star which does not have its influence on this Earth of ours. The Earth sits, held by the forces they exert.
“…He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the Earth, to govern the day and the night and to separate the light from the darkness……”
The heavens are the earth’s only perfect time piece. Isn’t it amazing that this earth of ours, so small that one thousand of it can fit into the sun, is the center of the universe?
So why was this Earth created with so much attention and intention? I’m thinking you already know the answer to this.
2. We, humans, are the reason for the creation of the Earth.
I think a lot of people misconceive this. I once did too. I used to think God needed someone to work His garden, so He created man. But nothing could be farther from the truth.
The Earth was created to support and sustain human life. Human life wasn’t created to sustain the Earth. Man was the goal of the whole creative movement. And man is the only creature that can enjoy its resources and beauty. The earth has no reason to exist without man.
“So, God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teams, according to its kind.” Gen. 1:21
Here we see the furnishing of the water. In verses 24 through 25 of the same chapter, we see the furnishing of the land. I love how these verses culminate in the creation of Man.
“God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all creatures that move along the ground according to their Kinds. And God saw that it was good…. then God said, let us make man…. ”
I capture these verses in my spoken-word piece-Blue-Blooded- where I noted that “Pregnant for us, He began to make preparations. Like an expectant mother He went shopping for decorations…… then all things in place, He gave birth to us”
When man was created, God’s creative activity came to rest. God covered the face of the earth with mountains, valleys, plateaus, lovely rivulets, streams and rivers, and with many beautifully covered flowers that thrill man’s heart.
He made fruits and vegetables to supply food for man. He knew what man would need. He designed the earth to meet that need. One last scripture to confirm this is Isaiah 45:18.
“…. He who created the heavens, He is God; He who fashioned and made the Earth, He founded it; He did not create it to be empty but formed it to be inhabited…”
Now you must be wondering, if Man wasn’t created to tend the earth, why was he made then? Please don’t say he was made to serve God, to worship Him because that would be totally wrong too. Man wasn’t created to worship God. God already had angels doing that. So why create us?
- 3.We were created for God- to be His love objects.
Yes, the Father heart of God is the reason for the creation of man. He was in the beginning a Father-God. Ephesians 3:14-15 clearly reveals that the human father is a type of the Father-God. We can understand a father’s love and desire for children.
When you think of having children, do you first think of what they’ll do for you? How they’ll serve you? Or do you just desire extensions of yourself, children born of your essence, that you can love and protect and provide for and do life with? How much more God who is love.
“if you then, though you are evil. Know how to give good gifts to your children, how Much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
One of my favorite scripture verses is Galatians 4:6, it’s where I learnt to call God Abba. It’s where I saw plainly written that the plan of redemption, the goal of salvation was to restore us to the place of sonship. The original place in God’s plan of creating us.
“Because you are sons, God sent the spirit of His son into our hearts, the Spirit who Calls out “Abba, Father”.
I love the verse just before this. I love how it guides us into this verse. It states that Christ came to redeem those born under the law so we might receive the full rights of sonship.
Have you ever noticed that in all his years on earth, Jesus called God only one name? – “Father”. One sign that we have a relationship with God and not just playing religion is the renewing of our minds by the word of God which brings a consciousness of the Father that revolutionizes our lives.
God created the earth for us, and us for Himself.
